What is FD/MAS?

Fibrous Dysplasia/McCune-Albright syndrome (FD/MAS) is a rare and complicated disease. It might affect your bones, skin, hormone glands and can even cause benign tumors like myxomas or cysts.

In some people the disease only affects their bones and called Fibrous Dysplasia (FD). When more tissues are affected, it is called McCune-Albright syndrome(MAS).

FD and MAS are caused by the exact same gene mutation therefore the disease is called FDMAS. How the disease appears and develops over time is different within people. Therefore, if you only had FD as a young person, diagnosis might be changed to MAS when you get older. Also during your life MAS patients might develop new symptoms of the disease.
